Me: “Here in Kinshasa? No.”
Natacha: “Why not? you have money…”
Me: “Money? No, that’s not how I get girlfriends.“
Me: “Yesterday I saw a boy in my age being arrested for cutting of a mamas hand with a machete.”
Dido: “Ohh, maybe she was a witch, the mama.”
Dido: “Policemen are disturbing so many drivers, and then they are running after skirts.”
Me: “Running after skirts?”
Dido: “Women. Sex.”
Ibrahim, 15-year-old street kid: “I don’t like eatin in the street. Look, people are watching. We need a table and a roof. We need a center.”
Ira Simmons, OneWorld Works L.A: “Humanitarian aid is about more than money. It’s about doing something. Together.”
Mrs. Michelline, Director of Mobile Street School for street kids: “Today it’s hard finding children. The police arrested many of them yesterday. I don’t know why... The kids will get penalties, doing hard work. And they will get no food. Maybe we will see them again in four days.”
Policeman, passing us: “What are you doing?”
Jules, 15 year old street-kid; ”Just chatting with these people, Sir.”
Policeman: “You shouldn’t be here. Your friends are arrested.”
Jules: “Ok.”
Me: ”Is it always like this?”
Jules: “Always.”
